Both sides have said that no one was hurt in the collision, although some damage was sustained above deck and to a mast on the Arctic Sunrise.
According to an ABC report, Shane Rattenbury from Greenpeace said that the Arctic Sunrise had been observing their activists onboard inflatable zodiacs as they painted the words "whale meat from sanctuary" on the side of the Japanese supply vessel, Oriental Bluebird, shortly before the collission occurred. According to Mr Rattenbury, it appeared to be a deliberate move by the Japanese Factory ship.

Greenpeace may have gone to far this time, yes, they had the right of way, but I believe they got closer then they intended to. I feel they are also going about things in the wrong way. The whaling vessel was larger and could not maneuver easily. The Greenpeace ship, as they said, “Was much smaller”. Therefore I feel they continues to move there vessel so they would always have the right of way, and with a smaller ship they could continuously do this, just this time the whaler did not have enough time to move, even though they obviously make it out to be the whaling vessels fault. Not to mention at the end of the day the whaler is going to get there quota, it just might take a little longer, I think they should be trying do change polices threw the government. I am all for the abolishment of whaling, but Greenpeace has the capabilities so do this in other ways.
Something else I am confused about is, as quotes from a Greenpeace environmentalist, “we peacefully protect.” I am guessing vandalism is all right though! For just before the collision, Greenpeace spray painted on the side of the whaling vessel.
I agree with your opinion on this one. I also read that the Japanese whalers have called it quits, though. So maybe this is the only way to put an end to this...in the short-term anyway.

Really, I saw in one of the many videos that they will be whaling next season again.
