Unlike PEI, Nova Scotia’s lobster stocks are up again this year. However, with illegal fishing taking place and higher total of lobsters being caught in the Southwester part of Nova Scotia where lobster stocks have always been rich, lobster fisherman in the South Shore region for example are in the same boat as those individuals in PEI. The huge amount of lobster being caught in the Yarmouth area (up to and above 30,000lb a license) has allowed buyers to drop the price to about $4.50 a lb, down almost $1.50 from last year’s price. Causing many of the lobster fisherman in the South Shore area to come out this season with the same total income as last even though most have caught up to and over 3000lb more then the previous year total catch. Something has to be done soon, both by the fisherman, and the DOF, who I personally think should be doing a lot more.

Do you have personal experience/come from a fishing background? I reside in a fishing community and also experience such frustrations first-hand from the many good people in my community.
